Cats are supposed to have nine lives, but apparently not when the Australian influencer emmaclaiir gets a hold of them. As the Instagrammer revealed on her Simply Chaotic podcast, she killed both her sister’s and her best friend’s cats when she was a little girl. According to her, by “swinging my cat around. Like I was just thinking it was like a stuffed toy and I accidentally let go of it.”
She goes on to say that they died from the “fright” of being let go, but I’m pretty sure that’s not how cats work.

“The fact that she's not sorry about it is very concerning,” @PoisonStardusts wrote on Twitter. “How are you not sorry about killing. Even if it was 20 years ago.”
Now, Claiir has revealed in an emotional Instagram post that the backlash from her story has been so severe, that she’s quitting social media for the time being.
So Emma Claiir was 9 when she swung 2 cats around and "accidentally" let go of them, resulting in deaths of both cats but her excuse was that accidents happen and she was a "small" child and she shared it lightheartedly on her podcast? Legitimately worried for her baby pic.twitter.com/IxeBgHJ76m

“I will no longer be allowing people to spread hate, spread rumors, and have a say in my life,” she said. “I will be putting my mental health first.” She goes on to cite her status as a new mother as the primary influence in her decision.
The majority of viewers are less upset with her actions, and more so with her seeming lack of empathy. Both while telling the story, and after the fact.
“So this idiot killed two cats as a child but has somehow made herself a victim?” @AShawThing_ tweeted. “What a sick, narcissistic, and sorry excuse for a human being.”
Claiir has also been dropped by numerous sponsors and brand partners, and fans have expressed concern for her on camera treatment of her current animals. As for her child, thanks to her break from influencing, we’ll never know.
“Legitimately worried for her baby,” @dreampai1 tweeted.
